SSC and ELAC
School Site Council
The School Site Council (SSC) is a group of parents, teachers, staff, and sometimes students who work together to improve the school. It’s essentially a decision-making body that focuses on supporting student achievement and the school’s overall success. Here’s a breakdown of what the SSC does and how it impacts your child’s education:
-
Advises on School Improvement: The SSC reviews and updates the school’s improvement plan (often called the School Plan for Student Achievement or SPSA 2024-2025.pptx), which sets goals for academic growth, safety, and other priorities for the year. This plan is based on data like test scores, surveys, and other school performance metrics.
-
Allocates Funding: The council oversees certain funding provided to the school to support student learning, such as Title I funds or other resources meant to address specific student needs. SSC members discuss the best ways to use these funds to improve the school's academic programs and help every student succeed.
-
Encourages Parent Involvement: Being on the SSC is a chance for parents to have a voice in the school’s direction and priorities. It allows you to bring up issues important to families, share ideas, and collaborate with staff on how to make improvements. Parent input is crucial, as it brings different perspectives to the table.
SSC meetings are open to the public, but only the elected members may participate. If you are interested in attending, meetings are on ZOOM from 2:15-3:15 pm. The dates and link are below.

English Learner Advisory Committee
An English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC) is a school-level committee that advises school officials on programs and services for English learners. ELACs are made up of parents, community members, and staff. Their purpose is to advocate for English learners and provide opportunities for parents to participate in their children's education.
ELACs are required by law for California public schools with at least 21 English learners. Their responsibilities include:
- Recommending programs for students with second language needs
- Providing input on how to support English learners' full participation in school activities
- Helping to develop the School Plan for Student Achievement (SPSA)
- Making budget recommendations
- Creating a structure for communication
- Advising the principal and staff on developing a site plan for English learners
- Helping to develop the school's needs assessment
- Informing parents about the importance of regular school attendance
ELACs are not decision-making bodies, but they are the voice of the English learner community.
ELAC meetings are open to the public, but only the elected members may participate. If you are interested in attending, meetings are on ZOOM from 2:15-3:15 pm. The dates and link are below.
